Visit Wigan

One of the two principal towns in the borough, Wigan is synonymous with rugby league but there is much more besides. Settled since Roman times, Wigan continues to celebrate its varied history with Wigan Pier immortalised in George Orwell's writings and the sites of Haigh Hall and Trencherfield Mill reflecting the areas' industrial and cultural heritage. The borough is the greenest in greater Manchester with a network of parks and countryside including Orrell Water Park and Scotmans Flash whilst the town centre has undergone significant renovation in recent years including the opening of a new library, leisure centre and swimming pool, and Grand Arcade shopping centre.
