Biography

Simon goes into this World Cup as the Kiwis captain and their equal-most experienced current player. He made his Kiwis debut in 2006 and assumed the captaincy in March this year from Benji Marshall.

As a second-rower, back-rower or centre, Simon is a defensive specialist that teammates love having near them on the field. He started at centre when the Kiwis won both the 2008 World Cup and the 2010 Four Nations finals.

Having grown-up in Nelson, in New Zealand’s South Island, Simon has been with the Vodafone Warriors NRL team throughout his career, chalking up almost 200 games. He has captained the club since 2010 and he’ll be reunited with Ivan Cleary, his Warriors NRL grand final coach from 2011, in the Kiwis set-up at RLWC2013.

Simon missed the honour of captaining the Kiwis for the first time in Canberra this year due to injury, with Kieran Foran stepping up at late notice.
