Biography

Born in Christchurch, Godinet was a youngster when he moved to Auckland with his family after starting his rugby league playing days with the Sydenham and Woolston clubs. With his 20th birthday falling in on December 21, 2007, he was barely denied the chance of trying to gain a place in the inaugural Vodafone Warriors NYC squad for the 2008 season. Also a talented tag football player, he focused instead on playing for the Auckland Vulcans in the New South Wales Cup while pursuing his NRL dream. A standout for the Vulcans in their 2010 campaign, he made the competition’s team of the year as well as being named the Vulcans’ player of the year. Hiscareer highlight was making his Test debut for Samoa against the Kiwis at Mount Smart Stadium last October (he scored Samoa’s only try). Earlier he had been signed by the Vodafone Warriors on a trial contract. Impressive form in the preseason trial matches - especially against Newcastle in Greymouth - resulted in him being signed on a one-year fulltime contract with the club's NRL squad. Again outstanding for the Vulcans in their 2011 campaign, he was 18th man for the Vodafone Warriors early in the 2011 NRL season and was given another contract upgrade, being signed until the end of the 2012 season. His dream of playing in the NRL became reality on July 24 when he made his debut as Vodafone Warrior No 170 in the club's 48-16 win against South Sydney at ANZ Stadium. Godinet marked his arrival with the last try of the match. He went on to make four straight appearances off the bench before Lance Hohaia returned from injury.
