Douglas joins Scottish 'Giants'

Scotland coach Steve McCormack has expressed his delight at seeing three of his players help Huddersfield Giants to the top of Super League - and the recruitment of Gold Coast Titans prop Luke Douglas to his player pool for Rugby League World Cup 2013.

McCormack was at the DW Stadium last night to see Scotland internationals Danny Brough, Dale Ferguson and Joe Wardle lead Huddersfield to a comprehensive 30-12 win over second-placed Wigan Warriors, extending their lead at the top of Super League with three regular season games to go.

"It's fantastic for Scotland to see these three play so well all season," said McCormack

"They're all in great form and looking strong. I can't wait to start working with them with the Scotland squad."

Though relishing RLWC2013, the three Giants stars will be hoping they won't be joing the Bravehearts for their RLWC2013 build-up until after the Super League Grand Final on October 5, such are Huddersfield's ambitions for the play-offs.

Other Scotland players not involved in the post-season play-offs will join the squad for training once the regular league fixtures end in early September.

Meanwhile, former Cronulla Sharks forward Douglas becomes the fourth uncapped NRL star to confirm his availability for Scotland, following Peter Wallace (Brisbane Broncos), the NRL's top try-scorer James McManus (Newcastle Knights), Kane Linnett (North Queensland Cowboys).

"It's fantastic to have Luke join us," says McCormack, who has been forced to find a replacement for for recently-retired prop forward Jack Howieson.

"He's currently playing regularly in the NRL despite dealing with the loss of his mother recently, and that shows his strength of character.

"You don't get to play every round of the NRL for about six years, as Luke has done, unless you're a fantastic player and a fantastic professional."

Scotland face Tonga at Derwent Park in Workington on October 30, Italy at the same venue on November 3 and USA at Salford City Stadium on November 7.

Tickets are now on sale for RLWC2013, with 55% of tickets priced £20 or less.
