Tomahawks name squad for debut campaign

USA have named a 24-man squad for Rugby League World Cup 2013 containing ten players born in America.

The squad has a mixture of established NRL, Super League and Australian-based talent as well as nine players who have played in the USA's domestic competitions.

Players who’ve previously worn the Red, White and Blue of the Tomahawks include Joseph Paulo, Ryan McGoldrick, Mark Offerdahl, Mark Cantoni, Danny Howard, Michael Garvey, Luke Hume, Matt Petersen and Craig Priestly.

The captain is Parramatta Eels forward Joseph Paulo, who has been the shining light for his club this year.

Paulo, 25, is joined in the squad by older brother and fellow Eels player Junior.

Other notable names in the team include NRL veteran Clint Newton, son of Australian golfing great Jack.

Clint was born in South Carolina while his father was competing in the 1981 US Open.

This will be Clint's first major tournament with the Tomahawks

Salford's backline star Ryan McGoldrick will also continue his American career while promosing Wests Tigers hooker Joel Luani will represent America for the first time.

The Tomahawks face Cook Islands at the Memorial Stadium, Bristol, on October 30, Wales at the Racecouse Ground, Wrexham, on November 3 and Scotland at the Salford City Stadium on November 7.
