Thirsty Planet appointed official Water Supplier to RLWC2013

Rugby League World Cup 2013 is excited to announce a special partnership with one of the most ethically-responsible suppliers of bottled spring water.

Thirsty Planet will become the Official Water Supplier to RLWC2013 and supply all 14 nations and the tournament with their product.

As part of the agreement, RLWC2013 will make a generous donation to ‘Pump Aid’, a UK registered charity which works alongside African communities to provide sustainable clean water and sanitation solutions.

Pump Aid employs simple, appropriate technology, while demonstrating cultural sensitivity and commitment to using local people and resources, to deliver sustainable and effective results.

Thirsty Planet will also enjoy prominent visibility at RLWC2013 events, including on match day perimeter boards, in changing rooms and at media conferences.

Nicky Reeve, head of marketing at Thirsty Planet, said: “Rugby League World Cup 2013 is a truly global sporting event, attracting media from over 100 countries.

“It is also a family-friendly tournament and one where hydration is a very important factor. That’s why it is such a fantastic natural partnership for us.

“Thirsty Planet is an ethical brand with a strong emphasis on supporting communities, those in Africa and in the UK.

“As well as contributing towards providing clean, safe drinking water and improved sanitation in Africa, the brand also helps educate children on the importance of healthy hydration in UK classrooms.

“We are delighted to announce that as part of the sponsorship, the Rugby League World Cup will be making a generous donation to Pump Aid, which will contribute towards two elephant pumps for communities in Africa. We’re looking forward to a great competition with a lasting legacy for both organisations and for communities both here and abroad.”

RLWC 2013 General Manager Sally Bolton said: “We are thrilled to have agreed a partnership with an organisation that can not only supply a high quality product for the tournament but make a real and lasting difference to disadvantaged African communities.

“It is also important that the tournament has this opportunity to contribute to Thirsty Planet’s great work through a donation to Pump Aid, which does so much good in sub-Saharan Africa.

“It is also pleasing to welcome yet another new brand to Rugby League. We are confident Thirsty Planet will enjoy a positive experience with us, and we hope this is the start of a lasting relationship with the sport.”

Rugby League World Cup 2013 begins tomorrow (Saturday October 26), with a fantastic Opening Ceremony and explosive double header of matches beneath the closed roof of Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Rugby League World Cup 2013 kicks off on Saturday with England v Australia (2.30) and Wales v Italy (4.30).
