Locky Meets Lucky Locals

Locky Meets Lucky Locals

The two lucky schools, St Peter’s from Manchester and Trafford’s Stretford High School, had the once in a lifetime opportunity of learning from Darren, widely acknowledged as the greatest Rugby League player of his generation.

With less than a year to go before RLWC2013 Darren was delighted with the enthusiasm shown by both teams. He also urged fans to book their seats now for the biggest international sporting event of 2013 in the UK.

Darren Lockyer said: “I’m genuinely excited to be in Salford. It’s a crucial time for the international game with one year to go to Rugby League World Cup 2013 and tickets going on sale.

I’m passionate about the competition, I’ve won and lost in the final and seen the effect a great tournament can have on both new and existing fans.

I know from experience that RLWC2013 can have a massive impact on the communities hosting games and I’m really looking forward to meeting the people who will be making that happen."

Rugby League Development Manager for Salford, Trafford and Manchester, Phil Fitton said: “Having the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest players in the game means so much to the pupils. This is a day that the boys, myself, the coaches will remember for the rest of our lives.”

The Rugby League World Cup trophy was also at the stadium as part of its national tour to promote the tournament.

RLWC2013 is working over the next year to inspire the next generation of league players with education programmes for schools and unique training opportunities helping to spot the England stars of the future.
